A talented young organist and/or conductor, recently graduated or completing your conservatoire degree.
A parish with a strong and vibrant musical tradition, unique in the Netherlands because of our weekly Choral Evensong and characteristic Sunday liturgy with its combination of liturgy in monastic style and polyphonic choral works. We are located within walking distance of the conservatoire of Amsterdam and directly opposite Amsterdam Central Station. All sung services are very well attended.
As a music scholar of the Nicolaaskerk you will have the opportunity to experience the full range of our musical activities in a manner compatible with work elsewhere or full-time studies.
During our ten-month choral season, you will sing in (at least) five services, accompany/conduct five services and, if conducting, lead the rehearsals beforehand. Our music director Michael Hedley will provide support and guidance where needed. A combined organist/conductor scholarship is also possible. Undergraduate candidates will be expected to take a significant part in the musical life of the church.
Scholars are encouraged to propose project or concert ideas to the music director and will find that choir members are often eager to participate, although the liturgy always takes precedence.
You will receive a modest bursary. Organ scholars will be granted significant practice time on the Sauer organ.
We look forward to hearing from you! To be invited for an introductory meeting, please send your CV with motivation to Michael Hedley via organisatie@muziekindenicolaas.nl. All enquiries can be sent to the same address. After receiving your CV and motivation we will contact you for an appointment for the introductory meeting.
